RPSI are running a tour from Whitehead to Dublin with NIR 112 on Sunday 3rd February 2013. Returns with Steam loco 461 and 112 runs LE to Belfast

There will be a break of approximately 3 hours in Dublin, arriving at 12:50pm and departing 4:05pm, with an arrival back in Belfast Central at 7:45pm.

Hi, is 112 definitely requested/allocated for this tour as the post intimates?
I seem to remember the Dublin mainline now has some special "safety gubbins" doesn't it so is 112 the only one so fitted?
keen to come over for it as missed it far to many times! but expensive weekend if it doesn't come out to play.

111 and 113 are still locked in to the Londonderry-Coleraine possession (until at least end of next month) so 112 will have to work the train as 201s are not permitted to Whitehead.

All three NIR locos can work to Dublin. Only 112 is permitted to work past Dublin as it has had a brake modification to make the brakes identical to 071s.

Just one last thing, how long does it take to walk from Whitehead NIR to the excursion platform? First train in from Belfast 09:30 so only 15 mins to get lost!

The 3 Feb train will pick up at Whitehead NIR and not RPSI due to building work at RPSI

or you can bail off at Carrickfergus at 0922 for a short walk to weatherspoons to get a quick take away breakfast for the 0953 departure to Dublin

In case anyone is looking in the future for this - I would suggest 10 minutes minimum. Whilst the two stations are within sight of each other it is not a direct walk. Looking at Google Maps it is easy to plan the walking route as both stations are shown (and in the correct locations - far from always being the case on Google Maps!). It's Chester Ave and then Castleview Rd. The excursion platform runs from the marked site of the excursion station to near the Kings Rd bridge, on the east side of the line.

boarding at the excursion station isn't possible due to the construction works. so they're picking up at the NIR station instead
