Hey

Does anyone know what the actual RPI (not CPI) percentage rate was for February 2011?

Obviously for the UK..

Thanks :)

Ta! Is there any way of trying to estimate whether they will be higher or lower than 5.1%?

Ask someone with an inkling. I think the general consensus is inflation is going to increase (predictably I should add) as long as the interest rates by BoE are kept low. By how much, I don't know.

This is all true but I guess it also depends what the 5.2 equates to on your own circumstances. Certainly better than nowt thats for sure!

You do realise that an inflation linked rise means that your only keeping the same value of money not recieving an increase in your spending power? Your only recieving a 0.5% raise in reality.

Sky News just saying the February RPI is up to 5.5% from 5.1% in January

Also CPI up to 4.4% from 4%

The difference between the two rates is something I'd urge any pensioner to keep an eye out for.

Pensions which would have gone up from £100.00 a week to £105.55 a week under the old system will now only go up to £104.40 a week. The kind of little difference that doesn't sound like a much over a year, but over twenty five years (assume that this is how long a pensioner is retired for) is a 30% difference.

Every little hinders.

Depends what you buy really. My outgoings over the past 6 months certainly haven't increased by 5.whatever%. Especially since prices of things I buy have either fallen (eg. milk fell from £1.53 per 4 pints to £1.25 about 6 weeks ago) or remained stationary.

And funny I should have posted that as I've just got back from Sainsbugs where I've been doing my weekly shop (as per usual) and noticed quite a few of my regulars have come down in price.

Clementines down 29p
Cream crackers down 7p
Semi-ethical eggs down 14p

It's probably enough to offset the January price rises and put my shopping back down closer to what it used to be.

I even managed to buy myself a treat for tonight & pay less than last week due to special offers!

What in the world are semi-ethical eggs? :|
Eggs from hens in barns. Not quite as unethical as caged eggs (which I'd never buy), but not quite as ethical as free range eggs.

One of the reasons I shop in Sainsbugs because their cheapest eggs are barn eggs, unlike a certain other supermarket chain...

Glad to hear.

Not noticed lowering of food prices yet although price of Easter eggs have gone up a lot since last year. Probably a good thing, will be buying less.
