So it seems 2 days it was a pair of 150s as booked then the other 2 days it was a pair of the active travel sets.

I think Thursday was the best day in terms of punctuality for the return journey anyway, the up journey still managed to lose some time.

Its unfortunate this service is often a candidate for disruption. The issues with the single line does not help but it seems this mornings disaster was simply due to the unit being late from the depot to form the service. Its a shame more effort cant be made to ensure this service runs problem free given its just 4 days in an entire year.

Whatever the original cause of delay - simple or otherwise - these things happen, and the long section between the Swansea District line and Llandeilo (ditto Llandod-Knighton) makes a delay of an hour or so to the late-running service once an 'intensive' service level is scheduled. The southern section deserves a more intensive service, but it can't happen realiably without a loop being reinstated at Pantyffynnon. But we all know that is not going to happen, given the state of public finances.

So I went on it today , here is the report.

The return trip with same units ran to time with almost all seats taken just driver and conductor no ticket checks

Thanks for the report. Good to hear the return working was so well used. Were most of the passengers on the return trip heading for Cardiff then, or did it thin out bit by bit en route?

Pity they had no ticket checks, kind of invites ticketless travel on a line with all stations unstaffed, although I suppose most passengers had return tickets.

And yet they are still planning to spend an estimated £88 million to speed up road traffic in that area, making it harder for 'active travelers' to reach Llandeilo station as a side-effect...
