Royal Train

Hi all,

I was wondering what it has been doing yesterday and today (30th and 31st), I saw it head north at around 19:04 near Polesworth yesterday and have just seen it head back south through Winsford at 12:09, anyone know what it was doing?

The Times newspaper still has a 'court circular' section detailing the duties undertaken by members of the Royal Family the previous day(s). Only one for the 30th March is available on their website at the moment, but have a search for 'Court Circular' later today or tomorrow on their website.

On the 30th of March 2010 HM The Queen was in London, as was the Duke of Edinburgh. The Prince of Wales was in Herefordshire. The Princess Royal was also in London. The Duchess of Gloucester was in Haverford-West, Pembrokeshire and the Duke of Kent was in Yarmouth, the Isle of Wight and Newport. That is all from todays Times. The 31st will appear tomorrow.

I thought that the Royal Train was also for some non royals, I think mainly foreign visitors, but another source suggests that it is only used for the Queen, DofE, Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

HM visiting Derby on Thursday for a service at the cathederal, not sure if the Queen will be using the Royal train or EMT.

Just reminded me, I was guard on the Royal train about 1972/73, the train was stabled overnight at Old Dalby, I worked the train to Oakham with the Duke of Edinburgh on board.
Then I worked the empty stock to Northampton over the Mkt Harborough-Northampton route, the stock went to Wolverton and I returned home on the cushions.

Princess Anne has used it in the past. Apparently she was on it one night a few years ago when I sent the train on a little diversion due to a points failure

That's the problem with using Wikipedia as a source. To be fair to Wikipedia it didn't say when that policy started, so it might be true now.

I don't know if you can answer this, but are you instructed to try and avoid it standing in stations and at red lights for security reasons?

It has to run exactly as per the notice issued; I won't go into details but it is quite a palaver if anything needs to be altered for any reason.

Possibly for a driver change as DBS do have a depot there. I would image that it would be "empty" (ie no royalty on board) at that time in the afternoon. Was it heading south at the time?

It was stopped on platform 6 so presumably heading south
