Royal Train Bawtry station 1955

I know this may be a long shot but would anybody have photos of the royal train at Bawtry station on the morning of 7th September 1955 and in particular photos of the driver and fireman , the latter being my father . The event was the visit of the Queen to the St Leger Stakes at Doncaster .

It is an interesting train, though before my time for Royal Train research.

HM the Queen was staying at Balmoral so the train ran from/to Ballater, and I'm intrigued about Bawtry being the destination. Bawtry was also used for the St Leger Royal Train in 1952, 1953 and 1956.

There is another rail link in that the St Leger was won by Meld in 1955 (Tulyar, Ballymoss and St Paddy were also Leger winners).

Presumably it meant that the security arrangements for the Queen could be made without having to worry about the crowds of racegoers arriving at and leaving from Doncaster station: much easier to set everything up at a small and quiet location. Although Bawtry isn’t the nearest station to the racecourse, it is just a quick run up the A638 to the course. I presume that the Queen’s visit was private and so didn’t require all the dignitaries and flummery that an official visit is surrounded by.

Any pictures in the following days' regional newspapers? One or two mentions in the press of H.M. the Queen meeting Bawtry's stationmaster Mr. William A. Oades, together with a number of other local worthies. Nine miles from Bawtry station to Doncaster racecourse, apparently.

The rail connection to the St.Leger is even stronger with the LNER Pacifics, other than the A4s. The names of winners carried on A3s mainly, but also a few A1s and A2s, in this list numbers over 40 and there are even more names in the Sire and Dam section. It would be good to know the identity of the loco that worked the last leg of the Royal Train's journey to Bawtry - how appropriate if it had been one of the locos in the list.

I note that the last St Leger winner to have it’s name carried by a LNER Pacific (60530), was the 1947 winner with the unpronounceable name!
