Royal Train - 22/11/12

The royal train is in Bristol today, as the Queen is doing a tour, she arrived this morning. She will spend all day in bristol and I thought I might mention it in case anybody wanted to get some pictures.

I have nothing against the Royal Family but l hope the pathing of the Royal Train didn't add to the disruption of FGW services in and around the Bristol area.

I assume as its a movement it appears on TOPs, do you know the code? Is it a specific code or set of them reserved for HRHs little joyride?

Well she will have travelled into Bristol in the morning even if the train did stable overnight; from an out of the way loop, spur or branch elsewhere.

It looks like the Royal Train is allocated either 1X01 (Used for many years) or, possibly, 1Z01.

Movements are normally pretty secretive. When I reached the giddy heights of being responsible for royal train planning [if three senior staff were on leave/ off sick/ under arrest] I had to be screened by Special Branch.

Which included the question:

Are you, or have you been, associated with any terrorist organisation?

The Royal Train never appears on TOPS, not even the ECS moves and it does not have a set headcode these days.

6Gman is right about movements of the train being rather secretive. I used to work in a traincrew depot and we nearly caused ructions one day when a discreet phone call was made to check that we had the relevant crews in place to which the answer was "what special train?". It turned out that the notice and associated diagrams had been sent to the Area Manager marked "personal and private" and as he was on leave the envelope had been left un-opened on his desk

It was discussed previously on this forum that any advance notice of the Royal Family or the Royal train movements should not be publicised here. Such movements are kept confidential.
When I was working for BR such times were kept very confidential and only circulated on a "need to know" policy.
