Would an order for new trains from Eurostar mean that the planned refurbishment will not go ahead - or will this order be for supplementary trains/so far into the future that a refurbishment will be needed anyway?

To answer the first question, SNCF appears to efectively own direct and through participations at least 50.1% of Eurostar.

To answer the second, it will depend on how SNCF contractual obligations are written with regard to very-high speed trains and their participations. They have recently acquired a rather large fleet of Bombardier passenger stock.

Maybe Alstom would like to take-over Siemens railway business in addition to power stations.
