Is there anywhere on the tinterweb that enables you to view the sales numbers for specific rangers or rovers?

Not that I'm aware of, no.

For the nationalised TOCs, you could always make a request under the Freedom of Information Act, but I imagine they will refuse - relying on the section 43 commercial sensitivity exemption.

It doesn't necessarily have to be something where there's a rival company, but where it might affect the profitability of the business.

Perhaps a better reason not to publish, from my point of view anyway, is it doesn't bring to the attention of the wider public/politicians the fact that not many Rover Tickets are actually sold.

I'm surprised Rovers and Rangers have lasted this long. Why does Mersyrail sell so many?

Because their standard off peak "return" ticket is a day ticket. But isn't it sold as an odd point to point ticket rather than as a Rover?
