Rovaniemi <> Narvik

Hello! I’m planning an international trip to the arctic circle and towns / villages within that vicinity.

I’ve got most the plan done quite well and written but one thing I’m struggling with is Rovaniemi <> Narvik

Either direction this seems to be a huge pain, as you need to go to Lulea, which in itself is a whole day and then to Narvik.

Does anyone have any recommendations on the best ways to do this area?

We’re going in September and it appears direct buses dont operate between the two during that month sadly.

Were looking at (Ryanair) to Rovaniemi to Riga (Ryanair) on £15 flights.

Done Narvik from three directions, from Tromsø (No. 100 bus), from Bodø (very long 100 bus ride, very pretty) and from Absiko (Ofoten line) but never any further.

We were about to go to Iceland with Easyjet MAN to Reyjavik (£24), bus to Akureyri (£70), side trip to Husavik, than back (£27) with Easyjet Akureyri-LGW... however it appears to have blown up (BBC News).

It seems likely that there are no services that late in the year. However, it is possible that the timetable for the period has not yet been finalised. It looks like the most likely operator is Eskelisen Lapin Linjat, who might operate to Nordkjosboth (and Tromsø), or to Lakselv or Tana Bru (for Kirkenes or Honningsvåg).

Day 1 Train to Kemi. bus to Tornio. walk to Haparanda station then train to Boden and stay in the hostel across the road the station (nb check in is from 17.00 hrs).

Visit ******* Burgers.

Day 2 Take either the 06.11 or 11.15 train direct to Narvik.

Seems that unfortunately this route only runs from December to March

It may be best to reschedule it for December / January time for ease of connections.

Didn’t even know they ran flights! Might actually check that out considering how cheap they are

This will probably be the option if we decide to do it in September, seems all else is written off.

Also, don't forget that Finland is one hour ahead of Sweden..

For example on a Saturday, theres an 8 hour bus to Nordkjosbotn, and 3 hours to Narvik the next morning.

One suggested itinerary has a 6 day stopover in Nordkjosbotn (!)
