Sorry if this is might be in the wrong thread , but can anyway tell me please which line the IC225 uses between Edinburgh and Glasgow, is it ever or have they ever gone via the ' new Airdrie-Bathgate' line? .
Please .
Or is there another route more direct than Carstairs . Just there's videos on YouTube but surely can't be the recently ( is it even finished ) electrified ' old line' between the two cities ?.
Apologies for my terminology I'm not sure what the original line is called before they rebuilt the missing link .
Thank you in advance

Only the ScotRail stopping services (and also the Fort William sleeper) go via the Airdrie - Bathgate line.

You are correct in that the CrossCountry and the London North Eastern Railway (if they haven't changed their name again by the time I press Post!) services go via Carstairs (with some limited ScotRail services running through all or part of the Ayr - Glasgow Central - Carstairs - Edinburgh - North Berwick route). The main Edinburgh - Carstairs - Glasgow route is electrified as the LNER services (last time I used it, it was an IC225 at least!), the sleeper services and the ScotRail class 380s are all electric trains.

ScotRail diesel services follow some of that route, but diverge to go via Shotts.

And finally the ScotRail express services go from Glasgow Queen Street - Edinburgh via Falkirk.

Hmm... Is there an electrified route from A-B to Glasgow Central High-Level? (Genuine question).

Only by reversing at Sunnyside Jn in Coatbridge, and via 10mph goods lines towards Coatbridge Central, then via Carmyle.

There will soon be two new direct electric Edinburgh-Glasgow Central routes though:
- via Falkirk Grahamston, Cumbernauld and Carmyle (already wired)
- via Shotts (wiring completes next year)

Thank you for the answer , I also just wonder if they will cascade the 225's released by the ECML when the Bimode take over or will the ECML be retaining HST , 225 and the bi modes .
Just I thought they were taking some HST's from.the ECML as well as GWR.

The 'plan' (such as it is) was for them to retain a few (four?) 225 sets and cascade the rest - where 'cascade' might well be a one-way trip to Booths or EMR.

You should know better than to make such statements - didn't you know that now the 442s are being reused by SWR that the 91s + Mk4s are being lined up for all sorts of weird and wonderful workings - S&C drags, Norwich - Liverpools, WCML OARs and I'm sure a couple of others I've forgotten.....

Hence why 'might be'. At least some of the Mk4s will probably find homes but I doubt the whole fleet. The Class 91s will be difficult to repurpose - where is there 100mph+, electrified, non-EPS running that doesn't already have new trains on order?
