Routing question (london terminals)

Hi

1. I travel from Worcester Park to London Waterloo each day and buy a return 'London Terminals' ticket. Instead of returning from London Waterloo would I be able to return from Vauxhall? Is Vauxhall a 'London Terminal'?


2. On the return journey, I have alighted at Wimbledon before and the machine has not kept my ticket. Will I be able to jump back on a train to Worcester Park using the same ticket? Theoretically I have paid for travel back to Worcester Park.

Second question yes you can carry on to Worcester Park on different train on the same ticket; all you've done is break the return journey.

First question - if you mean can you start your return journey at Vauxhall instead of Waterloo yes but I'm not sure you could exit the tube at Vauxhall in order to do so.

I wont be using the tube as work between waterloo and vauxhall so thought i'd walk to vauxhall instead and start my return journey from there.

The National Rail Conditions of Carriage have this to say on the matter:
"16. Starting, breaking or ending a journey at intermediate stations
You may start, or break and resume, a journey (in either direction in the case of a return
ticket) at any intermediate station, as long as the ticket you hold is valid for the trains you
want to use. You may also end your journey (in either direction in the case of a return
ticket) before the destination shown on the ticket. However, these rights may not apply to
some types of tickets for which a break of journey is prohibited, in which case the relevant
Train Companies will make this clear in their notices and other publications."

All the paper tickets between Worcester Park and London Terminals are standard day single/return tickets, with no restrictions so break of journey is permitted at Vauxhall and/or Wimbledon as you desire.

If you are using paper day return tickets, note that the Waterloo ticket is priced at £3.70 day single and £6.20 day return, whereas to Vauxhall these tickets are priced at £2.60 and £4.50 respectiveley. If you are travelling to/from Vauxhall one way and Waterloo the other, I would advise purchasing a day return to Vauxhall and an over distance excess for the relevent direction to Waterloo. The excess will cost half the distance in price between the two tickets, so will be £0.85, saving you 85p each time you do this. You should purchase the excess before you board the train, any staffed booking office in the country should be able to sell it to you.
Also note that using an Oystercard, even in the peak will save you 10p on a day return to Vauxhall and cost the same as a day return to Waterloo. If you travel more than a couple of times per week, you could well be better off with a season.

It's not a break of journey, as Vauxhall is a London Terminal. However, if it wasn't a London Terminal it would still be allowed.
