Hi Folks,
I am trying to work something out for my parents.
Most websites seem to show that the £15.95 Off Peak Day Return (this is with a senior railcard) is NOT valid via Leeds, which I am slightly confused by as it always used to be. Rail Staff Travel site shows that it is valid and would let me buy him one.
Tickets from Meadowhall are shown as being valid via Leeds on the same services via the Hallam line. Again confused.

So two questions, can anyone who is better than using the routing guide than me confirm whether it is valid? From my looking as Barnsley is a routing point for Chapeltown, then the routing map MY is valid which shows via Leeds....
Secondly, if it is valid from Meadowhall but not Chapeltown, is there anything to stop him buying a ticket Meadowhall to York and just getting on at Chapeltown? I am never quite clear on this.

I suspect this is related to Barnsley - York having been more expensive than Meadowhall - York at the time of NFM64, preventing the use of Barnsley as a routeing point for Chapeltown.

That doesn't apply if starting from Meadowhall as you don't need to undertake a fare check, so can jump straight to seeing what map(s) you can use.

A lovely odd quirk then! So if I buy him a meadowhall to York ticket he can just start at Chapeltown and be fine via Leeds? Via Leeds is the fastest way ironically. And the only route it's not valid on.

Can’t they travel via Wakefield Kirkgate and change for the TP York service which avoids Leeds there?

They can but it's less frequent and takes longer was all. That's what I will probably end up doing though.
