Anybody knew anymore about this?

Taken from another forum.

They managed to have my train delayed because, I **** you not, the one that arrived in front of it had taken "a wrong turn" and ended up at my station by accident, with a very confused looking driver.

That is, by far and away, their best one yet. "

When asked where and what happened says

South Gyle, mate.

Train pulls in, everyone head over to get on, but no doors open. Driver or conductor looking out of his window, absolutely baffled look on his face before eventually pulling back into the train and driving off.

Asked one of the ticket guys WTF was going on and he told me the train was on the wrong line "by accident - he doesn't know how it happened..."

That's very surprising. The driver musn't know his route very well since they usual stop at the junction signal in question and query the set route with the signaller if the line ahead has been routed wrong. I'm very surprised by this.
Unless you mean he was platformed wrong which is a different story altogether :)

Its fairly irregular for non-Fife bound trains be set to the Fife line and platform 2 at Haymarket. It is known to happen for Glasgow/Dunblane (possibly Bathgate when it was diesel worked) services to use platform 2 if a delayed service is blocking platform 4, or if there are engineering works going on, but generally westbound trains are routed back onto the correct path at Haymarket junction.

I'd be wondering why the driver didn't query the route set as well, they would have been anticipating a path over the points between the slow and fast lines, which are pretty low speed limit (25?) and so a decent bit of notice to spot an incorrect route.

Well..thats the correct route then :s

My bad!!

I meant the guy who posted what I c&p'd from another forum was heading to Dunfermline.:oops:

Should have been "The guy was Fife bound as he was heading to Dunfermline."

I can confirm (having been on trains doing so) that the Bathgate services did occasionally go via Pts 1 and 2 at Haymarket. It was very rare though - I only experienced it 2 or 3 times in 5 years of regular commuting. Was always rather offputting.

As to this incident, I wonder if this is more likely to be a case of a driver stopping at a station at which he was not scheduled to do so, and the guard refusing to open the doors. A train on the wrong route would cause major disruption.
