Routing Guide Help Sheffield - Hyde Central

Howdy. A friend asked me for some advice on routeing. I've had a look, but would appreciate some help before I report back to him.

The question is what is the route validity on a Sheffield - Hyde Central Route AP ticket?

I'ev looked up Routeing Points:

SHEFFIELD Chinley Fails Fare Check
Manchester Fails Fare Check
Guide Bridge Passes Fare Check

This leaves map MS.

Now obviously you can go Sheffield - Romiley - Hyde Central.

Could you also go Sheffield - Hazel Grove - Manchester - Guide Bridge - Hyde Central?

Is it relevant that Manchester RP failed the fare check?

As far as I can see there is no AP ticket to Hyde. Normal route is via Hope Valley stopper and change at Romiley. Single fare around £10.50.

It's not Any Permitted? I know the normal route. Is that the only permitted one?

I assume AP means Any Permitted - which is why we try and avoid abbreviations ......

It depends which part of the routeing guide that you read.

One part does suggest that if a routeing point fails the fares-check then every mapped route passing through that routeing point is not permitted (unless an easement allows it).

When tracing these routes on the maps you must avoid Shrewsbury because it is not an appropriate routeing point for this journey.

We need to carry out a fare check to see which, if any, of these reouteing points are appropriate.

Sheffield-Hyde Central SDS £10.60

Sheffield-Chinley SDS £7.50, which is less than the Hyde fare so Chinley is an appropriate routeing point (why do you think it isn't?).

Sheffield-Guide Bridge SDS £16.50, which is more than the Hyde fare so Guide Bridge is not an appropriate routeing point (why do you think it is?).

Sheffield-Manchester Stations SDS £16.50, which is more than the Hyde fare so the Manchester Group is not an appropriate routeing point.

The only routeing rermissions for Sheffield Group-Chinley is SH.

Oops. I seem to have got my fares for Guide Bridge and Chinley confused - this led to me using map MS instead of SH. From SH it's clear there's only one possible permitted route. I shall now disappoint my friend.
