A fairly reliable TOC friend has told me that a ticket from King's Cross to Leeds would be valid via York (ie. King's Cross - York, York - Leeds).

This seems to be a bit too much of a detour to be right - would any forum members with knowledge of the routeing guide be able to let me know if it is valid?!

It’s not really a detour, it can be the fastest route early/late in the day and if the connection at York is short enough, won’t be overtaken if leaving shortly after a direct train from Leeds
