I'm away from my PC so can't check the routing guide. Can anyone advise whether a London to Didcot ticket is valid via Basingstoke?

Thanks

It looks like it is - but only on the route Clapham - Basingstoke - Westbury - Bath Spa - Swindon - Didcot!

Yes - it's valid via Basingstoke/Reading if that's the route you're planning to take

I was actually planning on going to Basingstoke and ending short there, so as long as it's valid past there on some line then I don't mind.

If not valid to BSK; I wonder if there's the possibility I get a cheap
excess to somewhere like Oxford it becomes valid?

I agree that it looks like it might be valid via Bath, but you might end up spending the whole journey convincing the guard that it's valid. Making it Oxford doesn't seem to help either. It doesn't look like Waterloo - Basingstoke - Reading - anywhere is valid.

I think its valid from Victoria or Waterloo via CJ, Basingstoke, to Bath via Westbury to Swindon to Didcot, using WX+BL, changing maps at Bath Spa.

Agreed. London - Didcot is permitted by map BL or combination BL+WX.

BL allows Paddington - Hayes - Slough - Reading - Didcot only.

BL+WX allows:
  • WX: (Waterloo or Victoria) - Clapham Jn - Barnes - (Hounslow or Richmond) - Feltham - Staines - Wokingham - Reading, then BL: Reading - Didcot.
  • WX: (Waterloo or Victoria) - Clapham Jn - Wimbledon - Surbiton - Woking - Farnborough - Basingstoke - Salisbury - Westbury - Bath, then BL: Bath - Chippenham - Swindon - Didcot.

No need for that on this occasion.

Thanks for the replies; had no problem using this ticket, although there was no inspection on the train. I finished my journey short and will not be using this ticket past Basingstoke.
