Routeing Guide: Routeing Point allowed via an obsolete route code (DIRECT)

I am undertaking a fares check for a journey I do not wish to disclose publicly in this thread.

The only fares available for the fare check have route 00001.
00001 (formerly 'DIRECT') is no longer listed in route data and doesn't seem to be defined anywhere.

Does this mean that we can ignore the 'DIRECT' route restriction and use 'any route'?

Here's what the Routeing Point Calculator says for the combination:

Allowed by any route at NFM64: SDS from XXX to XXX on route 00001: £X is NOT more expensive than XXX from XXX to XXX on route 00000: £X.

As an aside, 18530 fares seem to have the route DIRECT in NFM64 data.

- If a routeing point is determined valid by a combination of routes, is the routeing point valid for all routes?

You can't ignore it just because it doesn't exist anymore - instead you use the closest available fare routes. Generally, route "Direct" fares were changed to be more descriptive of the intended route. For example, Berwick to Morpeth route "Direct" became "not via Edinburgh/Newcastle", so I would argue that "Direct" is a fair proxy for "not via EDB/NCL" for the purposes of the NFM64 fares check.

Of course, a direct comparison isn't always possible. I would be relatively certain in relying on the results outputted by the Routeing Point Calculator on the Routeing Guide website.

You have to do the comparison based on the closest available fare route to the one that you intend to buy/use.

Some Routeing Points may pass the fares check for one route code, but not another.
