Route Not Doncaster
For Sheffield - Leeds and Sheffield - Wakefield journeys there are two sets of fares, a route Not Doncaster and a more expensive route Any Permitted. In checking some details for the Harrogate-Tamworth (saturday) thread, I discovered that neither Sheffield - Doncaster - Leeds nor Sheffield - Doncaster - Wakefield are permitted routes! [1]
I wonder if there has been a change and the route has dropped off? [2] Without it, what's the point of having Any Permitted and Not Doncaster fares? They both have exactly the same route availability!
Map SY
Between Sheffield and Wakefield, map SY does not show the expected route Sheffield - Meadowhall - Swinton - Moorthorpe - Wakefield - Leeds, which is used by most XC trains and some Northern local services. Instead it shows a route which turns north from the Meadowhall - Swinton line shortly after Meadowhall station, and reaches Wakefield avoiding both Barnsley and Swinton. To the extent that such a line has ever existed, the nearest approximation is the route through Cudworth which closed to passengers in 1968 and to all traffic in 1988.
I suppose I should send ATOC an e-mail about this. "How to use the NRG" http://www.atoc.org/rsp/Routeing_Guide/instructions.pdf has quite a long section about what railway staff should do with suspected NRG errors, but absolutely nothing about how members of the public should report errors.
On second thoughts, perhaps it's better that members of the public have no instructions. The instructions to rail staff are pretty useless! They say:

In September 2008, the Permitted Route Identifiers were changed: from CE, MW and SY to SY and YL for Sheffield - Wakefield, and from MM to SY and YL for Sheffield - Leeds. The effect of these changes is that from this point travel via Doncaster is no longer permitted (other than on a through train).
In September 2008 Meadowhall was introduced as an additional Routeing Point, and in April 2009 Swinton (S Yorks) was made another additional Routeing Point. The effect of the introduction of a new Routeing Point is to restrict journey opportunities for passengers travelling through the Routeing Point, or in some cases near to the Routeing Point, where the Routeing Point is neither the origin nor destination of their journey.
When Swinton (S Yorks) became a Routeing Point in April 2009, it had to be added to the appropriate maps. I have checked 11 maps containing Swinton, and on 3 of them (PH, MW and SY) it is wrongly positioned. No doubt this has led to even more errors and anomalies. None of these errors are corrected in the July 2009 edition of the maps.
