Route with the most stops

Apologies if this has been asked before, but does anyone know what current train service has the most stops in a single journey?

It has been asked somewhat recently if you search around you may find the thread. One of the longest routes that comes to mind however is CrossCountrys Aberdeen to Penzance which has a whopping 44 stops and takes 13hrs 22mins end to end.

Threads include this from August and this from November 2009. 44 for Aberdeen to Penzance, 42 for Warterloo to Weymouth seem to be conclusive.

I done the Far North line on Sat to Thurso and a fair few stops up there . Georgmas Juction served twice.

Dalston Junction to New Cross on the East London Line is 11 stations in 5.725 miles
So, excluding one end*, that's 1.75 stations/mile.

Suggesting rural lines is doomed. It will be an urban line that has the highest station rate, even if you exclude Tyne and Wear Metro, tram systems, London Underground, Glasgow Subway and DLR.


*OK, methodology
take a line with stations every 0.5 miles
If this line is ten miles long, if we include both ends, then it works out as 21/10=2.1 stations per mile
If the line was five miles long, then it works out as 11/5 = 2.2 stations per mile
If we miss off one end, station, both are two stations per mile.
Seems to me a fairer comparison- if you include both ends, then short lines with not very many stations have the stations/per mile figure artificially inflated.
