Route validity - lms to pangbourne

Hi,
I'm taking this journey: Leamington (LMS) to Pangbourne (PAN).

For various reasons with the tickets I'm doing this by way of a single (offpeak) to Oxford, and then a offpeak from Oxford to Panbourne.

However, for the physical journey itself the NR website shows that the fastest option for my journey is to change at Reading (stay on the XC from LMS to Reading basically). Is my above ticketing going to be valid for this? Or will I need to change onto the slow train to PAN at Oxford?

A basic rule of split tickets is that the train must stop at the station where you change from one ticket to another. If your first train stops at Oxford then you are fine with your combination. You, yourself, do not have to alight and can remain on the train to your more suitable interchange point of Reading.

As an aside change "ims" in your title to Leamington (Spa) to make it clearer for us simple folk.

When I ask NRE for Oxford to Pangbourne via Reading it says you need to buy more than one ticket - not surprising as you're doubling back between Pangbourne and Reading - so it doesn't look like an Oxford to Pangbourne ticket is valid via Reading.

In fact, the surprising part is that when I ask for Leamington to Pangbourne it does offer the route via Reading on one ticket (the £40 Anytime single) including the doubleback. Why does it think that Leamington to Pangbourne via Oxford is OK via Reading but Oxford to Pangbourne on its own is not? The only Pangbourne-related easement I can see in the RG relates to tickets routed "not via London", which doesn't apply in this case (the LMS to PAN ticket is "via Oxford").

A route that is via Oxford is also "not via London", so perhaps that interpretation is being used. You can get the double back concession from Banbury as well. From both stations, unlike Oxford, a possible if invalid route would be Banbury-Marylebone-Paddington-Pangbourne.
