Does anyone know the routing this train took today due to the Hungerford fatality. GWR said it was non-stop Taunton to Reading but it definitely called at Castle Cary and Westbury and the next time I checked Traksy it was on the eastbound approach to Keynsham and I'm trying to work out how it got from Westbury to Keynsham as surely if it went via Bath it would reverse there not beyond Keynsham?

The 0605 from Penzance also just vanished at Heywood Junction and so I assume that reversed and terminated at Westbury?

I know things got a bit congested on the Melksham line with Weston-Bristol closed too for engineering and several trains went via Bath and reversed including the 1217 from Westbury to Swindon.

I would hazard Westbury-Trowbridge-Bradford Junction S - N - Thingley Junction - Chippenham - Swindon - Didcot - Reading.
However if it went via Keynsham then this is wrong of course.

From the off-route record on OpenRail/livetrain (Charlwood House), 1A77 left WSB at 11:06, stopped at BRI (P2) 11:54-12:11, and then via (showing as calls, though with unlikely dwell times) BTH, CPM, SWI, DID, to be back on route at Reading 96 late. This is one of the sites that can show off-route reports if they exist on TRUST; RTT doesn't.

It looks rather as if it was asked to fill in for cancellations from BRI, but there were none around that time. As you say, the line through Melksham wasn't coping, so maybe the detour was around that and to avoid blocking the line by reversing at Bath.

Westbury - Bradford on Avon - Bath - Temple Meads(reverse) - Bath - Chippenham - Swindon - Didcot.

It was due to crew route knowledge. Drivers changed at Temple Meads.
