I know this may sound a bit vague but how
long should route learning take?

As above. A yard may take half a day. The Hitchin flyover took 3 hours. Kings cross-Alexandra palace takes over a week. Hitchin-Peterbourgh which is far, far longer takes about the same length of time.

You are correct, it does sound vague and unfortunatately you won't get an answer without being more specific.

Depends on the route.

Depends on your grade (Driver, Guard etc)

Depends on your ability to remember critical information.

Big factor is the person learning it we get six days/24 trips for london bridge to east croydon inc sydenham spurs and Norwood turnback and there was an element of surprise that I've done it in the six.
