I am on the Edinburgh Christmas Statesman tour on December the 17th, which Leicester to Edinburgh via the ECML.

http://www.statesmanrail.com/edinburgh-christmas-statesman-171211.html

Our last pick up point is Doncaster, and I am assuming from there that we will have to pass through York, but would we actually go 'non-stop' through York station, or is there route diverting us away from York that you would expect railtours to take?

I would love to actually pass through the station, as its something I doubt happens very much for a passenger service (although its actually a private train). And I'd hope to look out for the new York Tap. I have been waiting for this place to open for some time, but as we have since had a baby, visits to York are going to be few and far between!

Looking forward to the tour and the chance to get my Scotland fix in (and stock the whisky cupboard up!);)

Sometimes railtours go via Church Fenton, but there are only two options for York - either through the station itself or on the avoiding lines. The next closest route going north is the S+C!

The SRPS Buxton tour was routed via York and Doncaster on the outward trip, and Leeds and York on the return - both times through the station.

We were stopped in York for a crew change (not a bad shift for the Traincrew - 0610 to 1030, then paid passenger back to Edinburgh/Glasgow!) and on the way back we had the crew change in Leeds, but were stopped in York regardless.

Thanks for that guys, I suppose only time will tell, but would be nice to go through the station.

Odds are you'll go through it, a run on those lines would be advertised for the track bashers.

Who's the operator? I'm assuming the crew change is Donny, but it could easily be York

The operator will be the West Coast Railway Company. These tours arn't specifcally aimed at enthusiasts so the route isn't advertised in that much detail.

I would imagine it will be through the station or a short stop for a crew change in the station itself.

You MIGHT get a run via the avoider, but i doubt it!

On a train...somewhere!
Even though West Coast drivers do sign the avoider at York it is highly unlikely that you will be routed that way. Chances are you will either crew change or go straight through the station (Northward I would guess at 5, 10 or 11. WCRC have drivers based at York so there is the possibility of a crew change depending on the shifts and train timings.

When the full timings are available you will see, there could even be a pathing stop in the platforms, more likely Southbound with only one Up line to Doncaster.

Well that's 45 minutes earlier out of Leicester than stated on their website, but we arrive in Edinburgh only 16 minutes earlier than the 13:00 they stated.

We are joining at Langley Mill so looks like an extra early start, around 06:30. Our babysitter will love that!

Got timings this morning,

Departs Leicester 05:45, Our pick up at Langley Mill is 06:35, arriving in Edinburgh at 12:00.

Return departs Edinburgh 16:05, Langley Mill at 21:50 and return to Leicester at 22:30.

Quite happy with the 4 hours in Edinburgh and should see some daylight through the better half of the East Coast.

Pair of West Coast 47's doing the honours according to Railway Herald.

Wish I was on board, sadly it's fully booked & I could have caught it down the road.

How you travelling Cally? First Premier Dinning?

We are in first, we did the West Highland Statesman last year and really enjoyed it si stuck with it. We have a place we plan to eat in Edinburgh so didn't want food on the train this time.
