When that was loading, having read the post I was expecting to see a lot coloured in, but wow!

Very impressive stuff, more motivated than ever to get on with some new track for my map now. Not done any required stuff for the Baker in quite some months!

Here's my map...

A few points: (1) There is a blue blob in the Cardiff area. This is to represent Heath Low Level to Coryton. (2) Several areas, such as Liskeard to St Ives and Oxford to Bicester Town, are isolated. (3) There are still some local examples that I am yet to use, both in the Avon area and in the (South) Essex area.

What's with the huge blank in Kent? You've covered HS1 and Dover via Faversham and little else! Still, an impressive result, at least until there are none I can brag about having done - such as some of Kent (:roll - in which case it will become an annoying result

Yes it's not easy to cover - I did a good chunk of the south east on railtours (including one which ran overnight, setting off from Finsbury Park after midnight and terminated at Waterloo 5 or 6 hours later), finishing off the final bits I required on an all-line.

All I want now are a couple of bits in Scotland, plus the odd curve here and there.

Well there's a Kent Rover valid for three days; but at £35.00 and with no Railcard discounts might not be the easiest ticket to use.

And even then there is a "void" between the Kent Rover and the travelcard zones! Its only really of any use if you live/are staying in kent!

The vast majority of it was done from 2005 onwards, although I'd covered some bits on days out with my dad way before then.

Is it possible to obtain an up-to-date "blank" (i.e. all red) map, inclusive of (among others) HS1, as some of you seem to have please? Thank you in advance

Here is my (hopefully!) up-to-date map, not including HS1 and the various local lines around London and Birmingham. Notable new inclusions are the Berks & Hants Line (by chance!), Salisbury to Basingstoke and, of course, most of East Anglia.

Tomorrow there is a tour doing some exceedingly 'big track', namely the connection from the main line onto the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway, a headshunt apparently being slewed to enable this to take place! Looking at Six Bells Junction, I reckon the last time a tour traversed this line was back in 1988 - the branch shut to freight traffic the following year and later became the C&PRR. Looking forward to scratching some new track, my second new 'main line to preserved' connection this year (the other being at Sheringham with Spitfire back in April).

The only lines other than odd curves here and there that I haven't been on are:

Barking > Pitsea via Tilbury;

Enfield Town branch, plus Edmonton > Cheshunt
Hertford East branch
Shepperton branch (both sides of triangle)
Hampton Court branch
Surbiton > Guildford via Cobham
Sutton > Epsom Downs
Purley > Tattenham Corner
Abercynon > Aberdare
Ebbw Vale branch
Barry > Bridgend > Maesteg
Lichfield City > TV
Walsall > Rugeley
Bathgate branch
Airdrie > Drumgelloch
Milngavie branch
Lanark branch
Craigendoran > Helensburgh Central

That's about it as far as I can remember. Quite a few of these are due to irritating reopenings or extensions of lines, meaning in order to get just a few miles in some cases, I'll have to retrace a lot of steps. Grrrr!

How do you update that template in the first post?

There's probably a better way than this, but I personally open MS Paint and use the "fill" button to colour covered sections. Where there is a junction where two lines come together without a station present on the map, such as south of Cambridge, I use the pencil tool and draw across the uncovered line so that it doesn't fill by mistake. There is probably something simpler though.

I see that a lot of your missing lines are in the south-east. You aren't missing much to be honest; the Romford to Upminster Line for instance is a half-hourly 315 taking eight minutes at about 40mph...

Might I revive an old question of mine? Specifically, is there a more up-to-date template available, with HS1 etc on it (as some of you seem to have)?

I will probably just stick to using a pencil on the Baker's Bible. Even better would be simply to get those last few lines done, then I can simply change the key on that template so that red is 'lines covered'.

I've finally done mine, however some of it was so long ago or insignificant I can't remember the exact routes done, so I have left them as red.

My unusual gap in the CTRL is because I've done the CTRL-D service to Strood and also Eurostar in the days when they used to go from Waterloo.

I did the line past Aylesbury Vale Parkway before the station opened, so I trust it counts

I accidentally corrupted my map, and now I can't get it back (EDIT: Except by downloading it from here, which didn't occur to me until some time later :roll. But by "corrupted", I don't mean that I messed up a save; instead, I played around with it and saved the mess by mistake! :-x

So instead I've started again. I've used the "updated" version, which I've been asking for, with HS1 on it (by saving a copy of one on here, and making it all red - sorry if this wasn't permitted! And uh, also for not keeping the all-red version, because it might have been useful; easy to do though...), and made three examples. These are the present, pre-University and pre-2009. Not far apart? Maybe - but it terms of route mileage, oh dear.

Norwich/Lowestoft and Birmingham (both of which were in Autumn 1997) aside, the pre-2009 map is pathetic! And even with the University interview routes thrown in, the amount of progress since I came to Bath is... well, to be blunt, staggering. (Especially given most of it wasn't until at least December, and that I am yet to do an ALR.) Really not bad for less than eight months!

If you're wondering, the Cambridge bit was done by bus to/from Stansted Airport from/to Southend. Otherwise, note the random outlier that exists in all three maps! It came about on holiday in 2006...

Oh, and contrary to the map, I have been through the Channel Tunnel, on I believe six occasions (all with Le Shuttle), the last of which was in 2004.
