Hi All

Could you check a route validity for me please, and explain how you did it?

I have an off-peak return (any permitted route) which Journey Planner suggests via Solihull and Tyseley. My preferred option is via Birmingham Moor Street.

Thanks in advance :)

Looking at Section B of the eNRG:

Banbury is a member of Banbury Group (Banbury and Kings Sutton)
Shirley has Stratford-upon-Avon Group (Stratford-upon-Avon and Wilmcote) and Tyseley as routeing points.

To determine which of the routeing points is appropriate for Shirley we do a fares check.

Anytime Day Single from Banbury to Shirley is £13.60
Anytime Day Single from Stratford-upon-Avon to Banbury is £11.00
Anytime Day Single from Wilmcote to Banbury is £10.10
Anytime Day Single from Tyseley to Banbury is £16.60

Therefore Tyseley is NOT an appropriate routeing point for Shirley for this journey, as the fare is greater than that for the through journey.

However, using distances from the eNRT, travelling via Tyseley is a shorter route than via Stratford, so it is valid on those grounds.

Banbury - Tyseley - Shirley is 44 miles
Banbury - Wilmcote - Shirley is 47.75 miles

Travelling via Birmingham Moor Street would involve doubling back through the intermediate stations between Tyseley and Moor Street, thus is not permitted without purchasing multiple tickets.

It's possible that OP's intended route was via Coventry to New Street, then walk to Moor Street. No doubling back there

But I still don't see it as valid.

Possible...But at around 56.5 miles, it fails on the shortest route test anyway, even if you ignore the fares check.
