Hello.

The roundhouse in Piła is the oldest type of roundhouse in Europe. It was built during 1870-1874 and it served for railway purposes to the end of XX century. The characteristic feature of that building is atypical round shape which became the pattern for a few other European roundhouses.

Unfortunately, now it lapses into ruin because of desisting from the use of its railway functions. Witnessing this situation, the group of railway enthusiasts formed the association and they made the attempt to rescue that monumental building. They created the concept of utilizing that building and they are seeking persons who may help to save the roundhouse.

The main idea of restoring that building is linked to creation of heritage park and workshops repairing old steam-engine locomotives. The vicinity of river Gwda could form the base for water sports. Atypical architectonic solution of roundhouse favors the establishment of artistic workshops. The places for nightly stay and catering facilities could be added as well.

Everybody wishing to know more about our roundhouse is welcomed on the following Internet page. www.parowozownia.pilska.prv.pl

If you have any suggestions and you are willing to help, contact us please. I hope that together we could save that valuable monumental building.
