even before the upgrade Mk3s still ride better than Pendos on the WCML, I know Pendos are going much faster but even at slow speeds the ride is poor. Ive been on the sleeper a few times recently and theres no problem with ride on the fast lines. Im not just having a dig at Pendolinos i want to like them but all i cant look past obvious things like ride quality and passenger enviroment.

Thats because the sleepers don't go past 75mph!

Wasnt just reffering to the sleepers, I "Quote" BEFORE the upgrade the ride was still smoother on Mk3s. if people are complaining how rough the line is now surely its not the line its the quality of the rolling stock on it? So your saying they spent all the money on the upgrade and its not up to 125mph running?

The 390s are not without their faults as are all classes of train and consist and I am sure that everyone can agree on that but as a regular user of them I appreciate the fact that they get me from BHI-EUS (and return) quicker and fresher than the bleeding car ever will do - that is with my commuter hat on but even as an enthusiast I like them

After coming off the bleeding Underground, I often doze on the way home (in Coach A which is the lead vehicle Nothbound)

Guys ! ! !

Really ! ! !

You should have ridden the Met Line A stock in the 1970s and 1980s on the main line !

It was said the song "Shake, rattle and roll" was based on a fast A stock journey to Amersham!

An AM6 up Brentwood bank on jointed track with all those catch points and the neutral section by the sewage works would qualify for that too.

Personally, i'm not really a fan of the Pendolino's and do prefer the old Mark 3 Coaching stock but i'm not going to slag the Pendolino off for hours and hours moaninag about how the West Coast should be operated by LCHS. But, I do find the ride quality between London & Rugby quite poor in some sections. Even had my bottle of coke (thankfully closed) decide to fall off the table as we went round a corner (wasn't that fault supposed to be ironed out from the APT design???) But the ride between Rugby and Birmingham New St seems to calm down much more and become a fairly decent ride for that stretch of the journey, probably due to lower line speeds and no tilting?

The long since withdrawn Z5100 class in France on a fast run between Saincaize and Vierzon ( if I've remembered the station names right! ) would beat A stock for an exciting ride hands down...

Mk 3's are limited to 110 on the WCML, it must be fit for 125 or they would not let the trains run at that speed.

I travel quite often between Rugby and Euston and the track appears to be getting worse as in a couple of places there is a real bang as if we go over a dip in the rail.

woke me up once as I was dozing.

Shortly after they were introduced, HS125, as were then known, would regularly exceed 130mph on both WR and ER and were rock steady, just a few ripples on the top of my coffee. 225kph, yep been (nearly) there, in several HS125 on ER, rock steady. Top I recorded was a little over 138 on welded jointed track but others were very close.

I think the 110mph limitation on WCML is driven by the traction more than the stock.

I know this is obvious but was the TASS operating? If the pendos cannot pick up the TASS signal they have to run at a reduced speed (110mph Vice 125mph) and they are not good at running without tilt even at 110! This would cause an unusually poorer ride that you are used to!

You know if you have an EPS/TASS OOU set; if running EBW you get looped at Coventry for the LM semi-fast, if running beyond Rugby on either a Manchester xx00 or xx20, you get sent slow from Nuneaton/Tamworth; returning xx55 and xx15 can be sent slow from Colwich/Stafford to Lichfield/Rugby to let the Glasgow past. If a Glasgow/Lancaster set is found to be faulty prior to departure from Euston it is swapped, the other ones they are less fussy. Liverpool xx07 can run on fast lines through, as 221 follows, and its 110 pretty much from Stafford to Crewe. Coming back, its sent slow from Stafford to Nuneaton to avoid holding up the xx27 from Crewe and Glasgow behind that, and then can be sent slow from MK to Leighton to avoid clogging up other services behind it.

It is down to the track not the stock it is only EPS 125, tilting only

They do go up to 100mph between Rugby and Euston.

Only if running late
