Rough night in the hope valley 12/10/25

Returning from an arduous walk on Kinder Scout on a Northern only Day ranger, just missed 16.33 to Sheffield, to find 17.33 cancelled. Oh, well to the pub and wait for the next train. Which suddenly changes to Grindleford, as does the next train.
Finally get the hour delayed train to Grindleford where we are informed a rail replacement bus will appear at 20.10. Long trek in the dark to the bus stop. No bus at 20.30 and someone says train to Sheffield will be at Grindleford by 20.50.
Start trooping back to Grindleford and catch Sheffield train. Long wait in Sheffield for party train to Hull arriving 23.16, three hours late! Could I have done better? TPE and East Midlands regularly whipping past, perhaps they should pick up at certain stations?

I believe there was a an issue with a broken rail within Totley tunnel on the Sheffield bound line which affected multiple services. Agree though, given EMR serve all stations on the route then it makes sense if possible to serve the intermediate stations.

Presumably you can claim for delay repay? I know this doesn't make the poor experience any better though!
