Rossett Station?

How many of you think Rossett Station should be reopened. Considering the traffic problems around there and the Villiges surronding it, it sounds like a sensible option.

A quick look suggests that reopening wouldn't be a bad idea (although I emphasise that I do not know the area, and have just spent the last few minutes researching). There's nothing between Wrexham and Chester, so I can see this being handy for connecting to London trains at either side, and commuting for both Wrexham and Chester, and indeed beyond. And Wrexham seems to have a few traffic problems to boot.

This all said, reopening a few stations on the line would probably be a good idea IMO to encourage more use, and adequate parking must be provided as Rossett itself is small, and the station could be beneficial to local villages as well as Rossett itself.

Why is it a total waste of money? Have you visited Rossett and the surronding area? I go there quite often to see my Dad

When the consultants study was published,there was a huge amount of opposition to Rossett station, the intention of which was park and ride,situated
away from the original site in the town, the area is a leafy area of many retired & those who travel to Cheshire to work.
It is unfortunate that the Chairman of Rossett conservatives as made it his
sole intention to be anti the station, a few Lib Dems have seized on this and made it political,

As for will it or wont it, well with the planner thinking no double track through
the town, it would seem dead in the water, unless a passing loop is installed,
amother idea thrown up in the report is a station at Chester Business park,this would be on double track.

Also the idea of a station at Johnstown would appear dead,except we have Cllr John Bithell (Croes Newydd box NR employee) having his constituency in Johnstown and he is also Lead Cllr for Wrexham Rail/Road infastructure,but
as Johnstown is only a couple of miles from Ruabon,I am sure it will be ruled out.

Interesting times, at least we know we will have some double track, but it all seems to be getting pushed into the backwaters. We shall see.

When the Beeching cuts of the 60s were imposed,Llandudno was exempt due to a few Ministers living there, double track remains guaranteed for ever,which is OK if you want DMUs carrying fresh air, but bears no comparison to what Wrexham/Chester should have, if you talk population.

Oddly, I think that the neck of the station, at Llandudno Town SB, is funnelled down to single track, so you can't have a train leave as another arrives. That makes the double track rather limited in usefulness: a few trains are timetabled to pass between Deganwy and the Junction, but that's it.

Well I have not used this line for a couple of years. but it was double track all the way then, or so it seemed, it was still interesting how Llandudno escaped
Beeching, Wyn Roberts and previous Ministers.


On another point, Wyn Roberts Sec of State for Wales, used to have a govt car to collect him/take him to Runcorn station from his home to from London, he never used a London train from Junction, said to me all those years ago
it was a better service and quicker.

It is still double track from Junction to Llandudno, except at the very mouth of the station.

Exactly...And to be honest, any station re-opening or new stations can be a good thing, afterall, removes cars from busy roads, offers good travel options for not just commuters but anyone who wants to travel anywhere really for businnes or plesure...

Here in Basingstoke weve got a different matter, There has been plans for a station on the basinstoke to reading line at Chineham for years, but yet to no avail. Reason - Both Finance and recently Network Rail !

NR are now claiming that having a station at Chineham would heavily impact on all services and signalling, yet Basingstoke is just under half way through a several year major resignalling project, and the only services between Basingstoke & Reading is the local services provided every 30 mins by FGW and the every hour XC services...

Ok there is also a considerable amount of freight aswell but comes reading is getting a station at Green Park - fortunatly very close to the Madjeski, which NR hasnt said anything bad about, yet why cant basingstoke have Chineham?

Mind you - its not helped by this sodding Conservative Led council who seem to want do anything for money but typicaly not spend any in return!

Found that out on a railtour this year..from Eastleigh to Chester and Llandudno with 67001 fortunatly we arrived early but thanks to the single throat into the station the ATW service had to be delayed whislt the stock was being mooved into Platform 3...Why Llandudno had to be rationalised i dont know...Why cant it still get summer services from London anymore...

Did Beeching live there before he moved to East Grinstead?
