Also, for some reason I thought the line was electrically connected at both ends, when in fact (after a quick NESA perusal) I see the Upminster end is not. So just the one feed for the branch.

Yes looking at the isolation diagrams the branch is all one section (327D). The two neutral sections are marked as being for "OB10" and "OB9", with feeder cables bypassing both to maintain continuity of supply.
