Anyone know if it is possible to travel from Rome Fiumicino airport on the local service into Rome and change on to the metro using the one 8 euro ticket or do you have to buy another metro ticket. Its not clear on the web when it says the ticket is valid to any rail station within Rome if that is just to Trenitalia stations or if it includes metro services as well

thanks

As far as I know, the only train/metro combined tickets in the Rome area are 'Metrebus' tickets, which are valid on all buses, trains, trams and metro in the Lazio region (including Rome) but only weekly or longer tickets are valid to the airport.

For more information, put

http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=04663d3ab88da110VgnVCM1000003f16f90aRCRD

into Google Translate.

From the table at the bottom, the furthest you can go from Rome on a day ticket is Parco Leonardo. So you could get a single between Parco Leonardo and the airport and get a Metrebus ticket for the trip the rest of the way and for metro/bus/tram usage in the city.

The 8€ ticket is valid to any station in the Zona Anello (Ring Zone) di Roma and to Parco Leonardo:
Trenitalia said:
*La ZONA "Anello" comprende le seguenti stazioni [includes the following stations]: Fiera di Roma, Ponte Galeria, Muratella, Magliana,Villa Bonelli, Roma Trastevere, Roma Ostiense, Roma Tuscolana, Roma Tiburtina, Roma Nomentana, Nuovo Salario, Fidene, Settebagni, Roma Prenestina, Serenissima, Palmiro Togliatti, Tor Sapienza, La Rustica Città, La Rustica UIR, Lunghezza, Quattro Venti, Roma San Pietro, Valle Aurelia, Appiano Proba Petronia, Roma Balduina, Gemelli, Roma Monte Mario, Roma San Filippo Neri, Ottavia, Ipogeo degli Ottavi, La Giustiniana, La Storta, Olgiata, Cesano, Roma Termini, Capannelle, Roma Aurelia, Torricola.

So no, you cannot use it on the metro.

Metrebus Roma tickets are obviously not valid to Fiumicino (only to Ponte Leonardo) as Fiumicino is not in Roma Capitale.

Metrebus Lazio day tickets are only valid to Ponte Leonardo but tickets valid for at least 3 days are valid.
