171 - London Bridge - East Croydon (I'm not sure how much further is still in the zones)
180 - No
379 - London Liverpool St - Tottenham Hale
442 - London Victoria - East Croydon
444 - No?

The ones that I've missed I'm not sure about

If you're looking for a 365, they can be found working trains between King's Cross and Finsbury Park on Peterborough and Cambridge stoppers and semi-fasts.

I've only done it once on a Sunday, but I've been on a 444 between Clapham Junction and Waterloo.

That one might be luck rather than judgement then I guess.

Thanks to others that helps in planning where to spend the day. (essentially not on the underground in central London!

I've done a 90 + Mk 3 from Stratford to Liverpool Street, but I'm not sure it was strictly permitted, as I believe it's set down only there on the down?

That's how to do it during the week off-peak as well. 0914, 0943, 1112 and hourly until mid evening should be 444s as they've come through from Weymouth. Most other mainline calls in the up direction could be either 444 or 450 over the course of the day...

http://www.southwesttrains.co.uk/uploads/ptt28[2].pdf is the Weymouth line timetable...

The down calls are theoretically pick up only at Clapham Jn, but there's no up direction restrictions.

This has been discussed before.

These trains are clearly shown on the departure board at Stratford, so you are definitely permitted to board there.

Like the Stansted Express services, also operated by Greater Anglia, the same is not true from London, as the departure boards do not list the pick-up only stop, but in practice there is unlikely to be a problem using these trains.

168: if you're lucky, a Chiltern from Marylebone to West Ruislip. Otherwise you'll need to go out as far as Gerrard's Cross or High Wycombe.
171: London Bridge - East/South Croydon
180: You'll need to go as far as Reading on a select few GW services (see here
365: Lots of them running from King's Cross to Finsbury Park.
379: Liverpool Street - Tottenham Hale
442: A few southern services to Victoria - East Croydon (or v/v), or a BZ6 - Gatwick is pretty cheap and run every 15 minutes.
444: London Waterloo - Clapham Junction, but they're mostly pick up (or set down for v/v) only, so you'll have to jump on/off without anyone noticing!

90s and Mk 3: You could try and do London Liverpool Street- Stratford, which every other train does, but it's set down/pick up only (as above). Alternatively, there's 1tph that stops at Chelmsford, which is just outside.

Hope this helps!

Yep that does help thanks. Will avoid ones where I am messing around with pick up set down only as its not worth the hassle.

365 and 442 are the ones I am after most. (out of that list... the rest i knew i could get on)

What time do you end your day? I depends if you are still around at 1800, as there is a FGW 180 that calls at Hayes & Harlington (Z6, 18:44) and Ealing Broadway (18:53) before Paddington (arrive 19:02) Weekdays only, only chance of a 180 within the zones, otherwise yes it's Slough or Reading

Also possible as opposed to a 172 or 165/168 on a peak 1-6 is Chiltern's 67 from Wembley Stadium to Marylebone

Interesting one - on all the occasions that I have used the Stansted Express out of Liverpool Street, the internal displays on the 379s have shown Tottenham Hale as the first calling point which was then confirmed by the automated announcements. I must admit though that I did not look at the advertised calling points on the platform displays. The last time that I travelled this way was in February this year so things might have changed since then.

There are some mid afternoon trains to Alton that use 444's that stop at Surbition (Zone 6), can't remember exactly which ones but I'm sure someone can help. There are also some very early morning ones too out of Waterloo (0653 rings a bell).

Not shown on the platform screens, but is shown on the trains dot matrix and is verbally announced before deeparture plus on the approach to Tottenham Hale...

444s towards Alton are currently (May 2013 TT) only 0653, 0825, 1625, 1925. This could change dependent on day to day units availability, but that's what the CWNs show...
