It is usually a single class 196/0, though 172s are not unheard of.

196/0 ordinarily, but there has been a 172 diagrammed on the opposite service to the 196 recently.

I wouldn't think so, Class 196/0 mainly with the occasional 172. I cant think of any other West Midland Railway classes that could operate the service. I see the trains quite regularly and class 196 predominate. Possibly 3 car 196/1 s may put in an appearance (The line can take 3 car sets and 3 car class 172 have worked in the past).

Having travelled on the service quite often the 196's are a good fit, despite the occasional problems which I think are getting fewer as the trains bed in.

196/1s are 4 cars. I’m not sure if that’s cleared, but I’ve never heard of a /1 running the service and I highly doubt one would.

Whilst the ASDO remains isolated, 196/1s cannot operate on the route due to short platforms on the line. A single 196/0 in each directions is plenty for nearly all trips on this route though.

Yeah the route used to be 153s, then 172s and now it should be all 196s apart from weekends when 172s usually make an appearance to keep driver training on the route up to date (usually Sunday's are all 172s iirc)
