Yes. I'm pretty sure the Glasgow South Western services occasionally extend beyond Kilmarnock to Carlisle.

Troon isn't on the G&SW though and there are no services from Troon, Ayr, Girvan or Stranraer into England anymore.

In this case, you can use a different sub-class of 156.

I know 158s have /0 and /9 subclasses but as far as I knew 156s were just 156s?

They are certainly numbered in the 1564xx and 1565xx series, but I don't believe they are subclasses.

Certainly the 4th digit in a unit number does not necessarily correspond to a subclass.
