Hi, I have a background as a Merchant Navy Engineer, and due to personal circumstances I have had to leave that career. Looking to get into the Rail industry, Does anyone know/have any advice on how to get a job, perhaps as an engineer working in depots on either diesel/electric trains ? Or something along those lines ? Struggling to find any information on this subject online. Im based in scotland and i have tried looking on the careers section of major train operators such as scotrail, transpennine, virgin, EWS etc but there never seem to be any positions for engineers..

Thanks for any help in advance.

Have you had a look at the Hitachi Rail website as they are taking on at various sites at the moment and ex-services are always highly regarded in the rail industry for engineering roles.

Yeah I try to check up on there every couple of days, but all the positions seems to always be in england. I need to be in scotland as relocating is not really an option at this moment for me.

I've found the "Network rail Engineering Conversion" scheme online, which actually sounds ideal, but i'm not sure if they have finished that ? If i click on apply it just takes me to the network rail job search page, and there are never any positions for that.. :|
