ROG Class 442 tour

Bit sad I missed this one - had a heavy night out last night so going on it wasn't an option, neither was watching it pass; too much drinking last night = no driving today. Hopefully there will be more. Pleased to see the pictures and hope there was much EE thrash. I'm not seeing anything on the Vintage Trains or ROG websites about future tours that have been mentioned...

Would it have been a GTR driver at the controls being route conducted by a SWT driver?

I'm hoping that they do a Poole-Waterloo tour

The units were clocked at 100mph between Basingstoke and Woking (as the guard announced) and some phone apps suggesting it was doing 103mph.

I don't think a 442 has done that speed in years, has it?

Certainly didn't feel anywhere near that fast - thought we were going quite a bit slower as the ride was so smooth when compared to a Desiro! Although I still got thrown out of my seat at Worting Junction...

I think I only saw 101 on mine but someone else got 103.

It certainly didn't feel that fast, but it was very smooth throughout. Overall worth the money I paid.

The driver used to be an instructor on the 442s at Basingstoke back in the day I'm told.

They didn't say, we were running 5E though, 10E after Farlington Jn where we were meant to wait for 5 mins.

Bit trivial I know, but just saw 5E08 go past my place on its way to Wabtec Doncaster, comprising 66754 and the pair of green ex class 508 Arlington translator coaches, the nameplate of one of which is stood beside me, that I won on the train Monday!

It was £59 for standard or £79 for 1st class travel

All doors were indeed released.

I don't know who the guard was.
