I guess the platforms etc along the way won't be quite as rammed as when the flying Scottsman and other kettles are out and about? I plan on taking my little lad out to New Milton to see the 442s and a few others passing through,

Make the most of the ones that are on the railtour tomorrow, you won't be able to bash them when they end up in Saisnbury's as tin cans!

Having a quick look at Poole on RTT it looks like they'll be parked up at Bournemouth depot between when they arrive and the return journey so probably the best places to see them will be Branksome, Parkstone and Poole stations, any road over bridges between them stations and also Poole Park and Whitecliff/Baiter (either side of the railway line)

How likely is it to leave Poole early? It was going to be tight-ish getting to New Milton in time but it was running earlier than I expected so we just missed it by 1 minute! The plan is to come and see it on the return journey but I don't want to be here 20 mins early if it's likely to be running massively ahead of time, as keeping a 3 year old entertained isn't that easy when all the trains down here are pretty much the same (444, 450 or a XC voyager). At home he gets a bit more variety plus freght as well to keep him guessing).

Well I'm on the train now, just arriving at Poole, and passengers who left us at Brockenhurst were told to be back for 1550, and at Bournemouth 1535, so I think we'll certainly be leaving Poole at booked time.

Many thanks for all the info and pictures chaps, it's great to see the 442s back where they belong on the South Western route and at Waterloo, to those onboard what is the ride quality like directly compared to the current 444s?

yes it was running early so caught me off guard so i had to use my dodgy phone to take pics instead of my camera, ill try to take better pics on the way back

Seats are horrible (a-la Gatwick Express) but the ride is great. Looking forward to the return soon!

Made it to New Milton on time for the return trip, little one was impressed as it raced through the station.

Looking on the ROG web site it now has pages for tour 2 and 3, which are blank at the moment but does point to more possible outings for the piggies perhaps?)
