Rescued from the scrapyard after a lifetime of work in the UK and finally in Spain, these loco’s have been fully rebuilt by Europhoenix. Normally seen working our Ramsgate to Litchurch Lane flow, these two cracking machines have their own following and we thought it only fair to give their public the chance to have a trip behind them and truly appreciate their power. This is their debut as a pair into passenger operation and will be their only double headed passenger turn in 2016. The route chosen is deliberately a difficult one and with 10 bogies and a 47/8 behind them will demonstrate fully what these loco’s are capable of.

Leaving Derby at 09:00, we take the Midland Main Line to Leicester. As we head toward Nuneaton we tackle the climb up to Narborough and on the other side of Nuneaton the bank up to Arley Tunnel and then some respite as we run to New Street. Climbing out of New Street on the Stour lines, we join the former Great Western metals at Galton Jnct and drift down through Droitwich and Worcester toward the gradients through Malvern to Hereford.

After passing Hereford, we climb the daunting gradient of Llanvihangel and run down into Wales, turning North at Maindee East Jnct for the run to Gloucester and Worcester.

An hours tanking stop at Worcester and a chance to stretch your legs and then off again for a run up the steepest main line gradient in England – The Lickey – and back to Birmingham New Street via Lifford and Bordesley Jnct.

Leaving New Street we take in two more gradients at Soho and Sutton Park, before threading our way back home tackling Arley and the climb out of Nuneaton on our way back.

Arriving Derby at 20:14, plenty of time to visit one of Derby’s traditional railway pubs before calling it a day.

We are sure that 37800 and 37884 will provide you with more than enough entertainment and sincerely hope all those joining us have the day to remember that we intend this to be.

The tour date is also revealed when clicking on "View Provisional Times".

Anyone wishing to do this tour may be best advised to book soon, as the following gen was posted on WNXX this afternoon by a Vintage Trains rep:

"Bookings are going extremely fast. Standard is well over 50% sold in a few hours."
