Hi Paul.
I have been doing a little research on this question and as far as I am aware there has never been a Roe Green Railway station. Roe Green Junction was the place where the lines from Eccles to Wigan via Tyldesley and the Eccles to Bolton route.
It was in April 1870 that Roe Green Junction came into existence with the opening of the Little Hulton Branch. The junction was closed on 20th October 1960, but the signal box stayed in use until August 1963.
The last time I walked these two former lines, there is still a Roe Green Junction but it is now only marked by a signpost.

From another source, besides that of the Wikipedia entry for the village of Roe Green, I have been told there was a railway station. I have now asked for more details to be sent on to me.
The Ian Allan "Pre-Grouping Atlas and Gazetteer" showing railway lines just prior to the Grouping has no station at Roe Green Junction. and photos at http://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=49395513&page=1
of the former line make no mention of a station here either.
There are two Roe Greens in Hertfordshire, but neither had a railway station.

Thank you for all the postings of assistance that have been made. I still await the information that was said to be sent to me.
On the Wikipedia page for the village of Roe Green, there is a section marked "Transport" which makes reference to:-
1)...A railway station named Roe Green
2)...Comment about the railway service from Roe Green station to Bolton Great Moor Street station

I've been having a look through my reference materials this afternoon and also on-line too, trying to shed some further light on this subject.
I'll own-up and confess that I am the person who has brought about this particular debate, via the Closed Stations thread in the quizzes section of the Forum. I was under the impression that there was a station at Roe Green, just south of the junction. My source for this is an old (but un-dated) map, which appears to show a station at this location.
However, having searched through my reference books I can find no confirmation as to the existance of Roe Green station, but I had never given the discrepancy any consideration before. Unusually, an on-line search has shed no light on this matter either. The only reference to a station that I have been able to find is the Wikipedia article on the village of Roe Green that Paul references above, which said that there had been a station but needed a citation. That was this afternoon - I can't actually quote what I read this afternoon, because since then the article has been editted and reference to a station removed.
Given that I can find no other source than an un-dated map, I can only conclude that the information on the map is erroneous. Certainly there have been other occasions when I have found errors on historic maps published by cartographers other than Ordnance Survey or Bartholomew's.
There still remains the outside possibility that a station existed in the very early days but was short-lived; there are many examples of such stations to which no on-line reference can be found. However, being a great believer in Occam's razor, I think a mistake on my map is the most likely in the absence of any information to the contrary.

I have also been going through my reference material as well as my old railway atlas's. I cannot find any reference to any Station at Roe Green. The station immediately south of the Junction was Worsley, to the north was Walkden Low Level and to the West Ellenbrook.
This is according to my copy of the Complete Atlas of Railway Station Names by Tony Dewick. I have checked other Atlas's but none of them mention a station at Roe Green.

I have amended the Wikipedia page for the village of Roe Green and deleted all reference to Roe Green railway station.
I have left the reference to Roe Green colliery branch.
As I am not familiar with the area please advise me if the information shown is correct or needs further amendment.
