Now that Rochdale Signal Box has closed, Rochdale West has opened, and Smithy Bridge has become a Gate Box, i still have some questions,

What is the plan for Castleton East Junction, now that Rochdale West is only across the line.

What is the plan for Vitrol Works, The only plan i can think for it is to watch the cross over directly outside, even though it is rarely used, and its signal's transferred to Castleton,

Where does Rochdale West control,

And what is the next box along from Smithy Bridge?

As far as I'm aware all the signal boxes in the area will be abolished or reduced to gate box status in the coming months. I was reading the notice about it recently but can't remember the exact details for transfer of signalling to Rochdale West.

Rochdale West controls the areas of the abolished signal boxes.

Smithy Bridge neighbours are Castleton East and Preston PSB.

Castleton doesn't go until the back end of next year as far as I know, Vitriol stays as is and will get abolished as part of a different scheme in the future as it is still a block post.

When did Rochdale station box close? I was up there on Thursday and observed activity in it. I also noticed that the station now had its LED signals up and running so who is controlling those? I also wonder what's happened to the signalmen in question :(

The signalmen may now be manning the new signal box or have transferred to other boxes.

I have just seen a picture of where the West box is located. It's virtually opposite the Castleton box! That will be a very odd situation. Two working boxes next to each other - a bit like Manchester North being in the middle of Piccadilly jurisdiction

Piccadilly is located at Piccadilly, and Manchester North is located at Salford Crescent; Rochdale's are opposite - how is this similar?

Rochdale West is bang in the middle of Castletons area just like Manchester North is bang in the middle of Piccaddily's area. It's unusual because you don't find many working boxes that are situated within the area of another box.
