Just read the sad news that former Rugby player Rob Burrow has passed away at the young age of 41 from Motor Neurone Disease.

Rob Burrow: Leeds Rhinos announce death of rugby league star

Former Leeds Rhinos star Rob Burrow, who was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2019, has died at the age of 41.

Burrow's death was announced by Leeds Rhinos, who called their former player "a true inspiration throughout his life whether that was on the rugby league field or during his battle with MND".

Burrow spent his entire club career with Leeds and made more than 400 appearances between 2001 and 2017.

I've been out all day and didn't know this until I read your post. Extremely sad news. I genuinely have tears in my eyes.

Lucky enough to have seen him play many a time and his final time when he had received his diagnosis. Privileged to have seen the efforts he put into fundraising and raising awareness around MND as one of my students’ uncles was diagnosed ~6 months prior to Rob but unfortunately died much earlier.
Very sad news only comforted by the fact that he has left behind all the pain and loss of autonomy.

I've just read a final message from Rob Burrow recorded by the BBC which Rob asked to be played after his death. If it's ok I thought I'd share it here:

"I hope one day we find a cure and live in a world free of MND.

"By the time that you watch this I will no longer be here.

"I am just a lad from Yorkshire who got to live out his dream of playing rugby league.

"As a father of three young children I would never want any family to have to go through what my family have since my diagnosis.

"I hope I have left a mark on the disease.

"I hope it shows to live in the moment.

"I hope you find inspiration from the whole story.

"My final message to you is whatever your personal battle be brave and face it.

"Every single day is precious.

"Don’t waste a moment.

"In a world full of adversity we must still dare to dream.
