Wasn't something similar tried some years ago, possibly even by BR, when roadworkd affected the M1?

A while back when there was roadworks on the A1, Northern put on additional services between Darlington and Newcastle, calling at Durham and Chester-le-Street. Possibly might have been in part funded by the Highways Agency.

Yes, when the M10 (as it was) bridge was rebuilt for the M1 widening. Late 80s I think.

Its many a year since you could catch a train from Bournemouth to Ringwood !!!:roll:
