This might have been a joke.

But the RMT thinking the best way to represent their members is by threatening to strike two months into a new government, is the sort of thing that would make me look for a new union.

I'd probably have given the signallers the money before drivers.

They haven't been holding up the network whenever they like for the last 2 years.

The same government who sorted ASLEF out within weeks..... And it would be the members decision to strike, not the Union.

Can’t remember aslef memebers complaining last year when RMT was agreeing a deal for 2022 for there members

You aren't that naïve surely..................

Has nothing to do with the RMT, nor is it in the workers interests to fail to secure pay deals because of it. All of this is taking way too long.

it absolutely does - again you cant be that naïve to think everything is sperate. It is politics.

it would be entirely counter productive to take such action. You must see that even if you cant/wont admit that. The political environment is much more conducive to a positive outcome than before the election!

There haven't been many media appearances from the RMT general secretary castigating the government since the election. The mood music indicates a deal is in the offing and it really isn't worth jeopardise that.

ALSEF can do more damage and are an easier/less complex fix.

Walk out then!!!! Surely if RMT leadership were not satisfied with what was happening they surely would be calling for a ballot for strike action of its membership.

It was the RMT that stated they were going to have a meeting next week, where they expected an improved offer to be tabled. That was on the 30th August.

RMT members are only asking for an update on this meeting.

There is, therefore, “info to tell” , either the outcome of the meeting or such a meeting didn’t take place.

In fairness, the Trades Union movement helped found the Labour Party. They have annual conferences. Whether we like it or not, unions are part of the political scene.

Whilst I think there should be better, or maybe more open, communication from the RMT, I do think all of this highlights why it would take longer to resolve than say TSSA or ASLEF.

RMT are dealing with many grades in many different negotiations. To me the fact NR talks have stalled doesn't change how I feel about the union, but I can see why NR colleagues are more frustrated than TOC colleagues are.

Another email, about another meeting that’s taking place… same old eh!! Probably have another email Monday saying there’s been another meeting scheduled!

Government processes didn’t seem to hold up other pay deals being announced though? Including ASLEFs

These processes were before the winter fuel payments were withdrawn.

The transport secretary has time to meet her Ukrainian counterpart to pledge support though! Absolutely ridiculous

The optics wouldn't be good either if it comes to Christmas and just like their predecessor, completely avoidable strikes cripple the leisure sector.

And the reality for members who are still two pay deals behind where they should be isn’t good.

When is the right time to give staff a pay rise then? Winter fuel payments for all but the poorest are going. That isn’t going to change regardless of this pay deal.

They settled with ASLEF before they dropped the winter fuels cuts bombshell.

The budget isn’t even until end of October, where there will be more bad news in one way or another. Winter fuel allowance won’t be forgotten before then.

Then there’ll be another excuse as to why railway staff cannot get their pay deals agreed. It’s all a load of nonsense
