It's beneficial to members if the lump sum is reduced. The conversion factor which would be applied to the increased funds for an annuity is unrivalled. I'll have some of that, thank you.
A little off topic perhaps ,not all schemes / classes of members have the guranteed 12:1 ratio , conversaion factors otherwise are set by the trustees of the relevant scheme .But that obviously is also only a benefit if the member lives longer than the 12 years , and has planned sufficiently to not need the lump sum .It's beneficial to members if the lump sum is reduced. The amount paid in is presumably only fixed in that it’s been agreed between the employer and the union, if circumstances change there will undoubtedly be pressure to adjust it.
Indeed, only 2 people from NR attended our last branch meeting and no reports from reps so there was essentially nothing to discuss from a NR perspective. Poor really.Which is why Network Rail RMT members should attend branch meetings and get a resolution put forward to the NEC and Regional Council expressing their dissatisfaction at the time it is taking to resolve this. Some branches have already done it. Perhaps others need to as well!
the pay talks also affect your pension contributionsThought this thread was about Pay Talks.....?
RPI is a dead metric. Move on. Never going to get an RPI deal ever again.![]()

Hopefully, someone else is still talking to NR.
“Only by having a fully publicly owned and integrated transport system can we have an industry that benefits workers and passengers alike."
Under BR, workers were relatively poorly paid, rolling stock was, on average, older and fewer trains were scheduled to run.
Is ideological dogma going to get us RPI + 0.5% like we got, ON TIME, for years …. Clearly not !
No instead, you get strikes and, at least, 9 months of delay to pay increases … still when you are at (class) war , you have to have casualties.
Because everyone has been conditioned into believing that they're well paid enough, and it's because NR feels warm and fuzzy.Indeed, only 2 people from NR attended our last branch meeting and no reports from reps so there was essentially nothing to discuss from a NR perspective. Poor really.
Agreed. Fair is fair. All will be good.Government have only been in power a matter of weeks. I think it’s incumbent upon people to give them a little space to work through these talks so both sides are comfortable. That’s only fair.

Of course in that same time period. ASLEF have managed to sort out very quickly a deal for drivers......the ballot for which closes next week and is almost certain to be accepted. Money in pay packets during October would be a very good guess imoAgreed. Fair is fair. All will be good.
And very nice too with Christmas approaching rapidly. RMT will want to wrap it up pretty quickly too for the same reason I guess.Of course in that same time period. Network Rail, stalled, no meetings, nothing. Patience wearing thin.I ve kind of lost track as to where RMT members are actually up to just now....anyone care to do a refresh on current situation

TOC staff still waiting on two pay deals, but who knows what’ll happen. No updates for almost 2 weeks. Parliament breaks for conference season soon too. RMT leadership very lenient so far.I ve kind of lost track as to where RMT members are actually up to just now....anyone care to do a refresh on current situation
Which must be somewhat worrying for the average RMT member. I also note post 315. In parallel with this, I also understand that the Chancellor has given cabinet ministers until this Friday to come up with a reduced budget for their own departments. This may be having an impactTOC staff still waiting on two pay deals, but who knows what’ll happen. No updates for almost 2 weeks. Parliament breaks for conference season soon too. It would still be unreasonable so soon after an election. The reality is that if we had a Tory government, RMT would've balloted us by now.
Because they have already settled with ASLEF (and some other public sector workers). It would still be unreasonable so soon after an election.
I don't understand why people seem to expect RMT negotiations to come above everything two months into a new government.
But that was before they dropped the winter fuel payments bombshell.Because they have already settled with ASLEF (and some other public sector workers).
yes.....there is similar at my depot and the others which i visit. IMO its going to come to that at some point. Absolutely no way should RMT staff be treated any different from ASLEF.There's growing unrest amongst my RMT colleagues and many have suggested taking strike action
Has nothing to do with the RMT, nor is it in the workers interests to fail to secure pay deals because of it. All of this is taking way too long. But that was before they dropped the winter fuel payments bombshell.
Doctors and train drivers first seems quite a sensible way to do it.Because they have already settled with ASLEF (and some other public sector workers).
I'd probably have given the signallers the money before drivers.Doctors and train drivers first seems quite a sensible way to do it.
Can’t remember aslef memebers complaining last year when RMT was agreeing a deal for 2022 for there membersyes.....there is similar at my depot and the others which i visit. IMO its going to come to that at some point. Absolutely no way should RMT staff be treated any different from ASLEF.
