Can someone tell me the timings of the Amersham-Harrow heritage trips next Sunday?
I’d like to take my grandson to see the train passing Rickmansworth if possible.

I wonder if they are planning on augmenting any bus services for this strike? In previous years they ran duplicates to try and take some of the load, but I don't think they bothered last time. It seems in the eyes of TfL that if you say there is some sort of bus service, that's good enough - even if it is woefully unable to take the number of people required. (As in service disruption, when it is expected that an every-5-minute northern line service should magically be able to fit on an every-15-minute double decker bus). As there's a couple of weeks notice, that should be sufficient time for the required arrangements to be made, if there is a will to do so.

If they can resource extra staff to run the buses, then maybe. But if the drivers are sympathetic to the cause - amongst many other reasons - they may not be willing to do the OT/RDW.

Hmmm, regarding DLR, I wonder if 'Tuesday 8' should be Monday 8 or Tuesday 9 September. Does anyone here know, please?
DLR is:
00:01 hours and 23:59 hours on Tuesday 9 September
00:01 hours and 23:59 hours on Thursday 11 September

TfL have finally added something to their website, although it is still rather generic: https://tfl.gov.uk/campaign/strikes
TimeOut is being more dramatic with its reporting:

Relevant section of page (the rest is more like background information / "how to get around during strikes" etc.) which feels as if it may be based on a simplistic interpretation of the announcements so far:

What dates are the tube strikes in September?

The strikes will begin at 6pm on Friday September 5, with different people walking out on each day until September 11, but the effect – halted tube trains – will be the same whichever people are striking on a given day. Here’s what that will look like in practice:

  • Friday September 5: No service on Underground lines after 6pm.
  • Saturday September 6: No service on Underground lines all day
  • Sunday September 7: No service on Underground lines OR DLR all day
  • Monday September 8: No service on Underground lines OR DLR all day
  • Tuesday September 9: No service on Underground lines OR DLR all day
  • Wednesday September 10: No service on Underground lines OR DLR all day
  • Thursday September 11: No service on Underground lines OR DLR all day

If the intention is to avoid the strikes, why Saturday 6th??? That’s a strike day!

The impact of the strike on Friday and Saturday is significantly more localised and will not cause issues with the Coldplay gig. The TfL website says this; TimeOut is wrong.

Chiltern ran many extra services between Marylebone and Wembley Stadium stations before and after a Korean pop band’s shows recently.
Journey planners are again showing extra trains on Wednesday and Thursday this week, but display Chiltern running their normal 2 trains per hour between Marylebone and Wembley Stadium on Saturday. Going that way will be nigh-on impossible, unless their are extra services and journey planners have not yet been updated?

BBC reported “18.00 5 September to 17:59 6 September: Ruislip depot operational managers”
So what effect does this have on tube services on Friday/Saturday??

Very little, except for Central Line trains entering/leaving Ruislip Depot

Anyone know the impact on the 1938 Stock Heritage Trips? I've booked on the Sunday Amersham - Harrow and back...
TIA
Sadly now cancelled because of the action.

Chiltern Railways will run their normal "enhanced" service on Saturday . Will be in planners later this week

Mon-Wed will have Met line services Aylesbury VP-Marylebone after 8am but non-stop from Great Missenden to/from Marylebone. Tue+Thur a Aylesbury VP-Great Missenden shuttle with some extra London services via High Wycombe. Late start on Fri

Is the following a correct summary of impact?

5th/6th: limited impact to Central Line, all other lines operating normally (except for engineering works)
7th/8th/10th: no (or extremely limited) London Underground service; potentially limited-stop Elizabeth Line/Chiltern/Moorgate Line services
9th/11th: as above + no DLR service

Expect trains to operate non-stop between Stratford/Canary Wharf and Paddington (exclusive) first thing and last thing. The LU CCOS stations will almost certainly be opened by ambassadors during office hours.

Even if the ambassadors are used, safe to assume that won't apply on Sunday 7th?

Planning Maze Hill - Heathrow and SouthEastern to Abbey Wood for the Elizabeth Line looks slow but workable if Farringdon is closed.

The TfL website is saying:
Other TfL services, including the Elizabeth line, London Overground and trams, will be running normally but are likely to be extremely busy.
...so I would expect this to be the case on Sunday too - i.e. potentially nothing first thing or last thing. Taking the TfL website at the letter that might be worse case scenario, but personally I'd rather give a "worst-case" based on past strikes than just say 'yes'.

I would certainly expect EL to be running between Abbey Wood and Heathrow normally, just potentially non-stopping the CCOS. Farringdon is definitely a 'priority' station for Ambassadors.

The TfL website is also very bold to claim:

As there is a high chance they may not, particular through shared staffed stations.

Well it would be fast Paddington - Stratford or Canary Wharf as the stations on the Abbey Wood branch are all run by Elizabeth line staff, not LU.

I found it odd that Track Access Engineers and Power/Control teams are only doing 1 day of strike action compared to the 2 days for everyone else.

Does anyone know whether stations with mixed Underground/NR staffing are likely to remain open, for example Finsbury Park or Walthamstow Central? I'm guessing yes for the NR parts but will Underground barrier lines just be left open, or will those entrances be closed?

In those examples, if there are no LU staff the Underground station area will certainly be closed

Finsbury Park usually has the Underground sections gated off and the GN Inners running into Kings Cross instead of Moorgate.

Thanks. Slight inconvenience as some of the Underground entrances are better located, but the main thing is that NR trains won't be running through non-stop.

TfL information has been updated, confirming what some have stated about shared stations: https://tfl.gov.uk/campaign/strikes?intcmp=35779

Looks like they've priortised staffing at shared Elizabeth line stations.

Elizabeth line

  • There are no strikes on the Elizabeth line
  • Trains will not stop at stations between Whitechapel and Bond Street at these times:
    • Monday 8 and Wednesday 10: before 07:30 and after 22:30
    • Tuesday 9 and Thursday 11: before 07:30
  • Stations shared with Tube services: possible disruption

That's not 100% clear whether "between" is meant to include Whitechapel & Bond Street themselves. It's obvious to anyone here that they're both LU-affected too, but the general public deserves better communication.

I'm seeing a friend in London this weekend. I'm not familiar enough with the best ways to get around during strikes. How do people recommend getting from the Roman Road area of Bow to London Euston train station on Sunday?

Sunday is still a limited tube service, so depends when you are travelling.

Otherwise it depends how much walking you are happy doing or bus travel you want to do with the risk you might not be able to get on. There's a 205 bus direct to Euston from Mile End tube station.
