Rishton to Northampton ticket advice

If I have an off peak return for rishton to Northampton, my normal trains being Rishton to Preston, Preston Birmingham and then Birmingham to Northampton. My normal train back is the 17:55 from Northampton to Birmingham and then the 19:15 from there, this being the last train to connect with the last train off Preston. My question is if I miss the 19:15 would I be able to travel via Manchester on the same ticket.

Travel via Manchester is fine although if you have to travel between Piccadilly and Victoria (not sure if you have to do so without checking) Metrolink is not included in the price of your ticket and you'll either need to pay for for a Metrolink ticket or walk.

Assuming your ticket is routed 'Any Permittd' you can also travel via Milton Keynes which might make your journey quicker and allow earlier/later travel as well.
