It has just been announced on LBC that former Apple CEO Steve Jobs has died. This is quite sad news as he had been ill for a few years and at one time looked to be on the road to recovery.

Being reported by the BBC now.

I am not a fan of the way Apple do things preferring Android although I confess to owning an iPod.

However it is remarkable how Steve Jobs & team have dramatically turned round the fortunes of Apple in the last 10 - 15 years.

I've owned an iPhone 3GS I currently own an iPod Classic, iPod Touch and an iPod Mini.

But I am no way an Apple Fanboy. I do own android phones too.

It's very sad news about Steve Jobs.

Say what you will about Apple the company (and lord knows I've some choice words for them), it doesn't change the fact that Steve Jobs was one talented individual who will be missed by the technology industry.

I met Steve at the launch of the original iPhone 2G so I actually do feel sad.

I own loads of Apple products, bar the iPhone, and while I didn't like the control freak nature of him, I certainly respected him.

I do see the spell being broken soon. The new CEO can never replace Steve. Nobody can.

In my opinion he is a genius and it is such a sad tale that he has been struggling with cancer for the last few years. May he rest in peace.

Well I hate Apple's style of thinking and doing things (copy & paste everywhere if you see what I mean...) but may Steve Jobs rest in peace.

What a sad loss to the world of technology. It's thanks to Steve Jobs that Apple was so successful.

I agree with the posts above, he will be missed as he's done so much to advance technology as well as bring Apple so much success.

I remember getting my own iMac G3 at the time and thinking how easy it was to use, it's small things like that which have made a huge difference in the world of computing.

In a capitalist society, we seem to be quite happy for people/corporations to do what whatever they have to do to succeed. Look at Tesco for an example (like Apple, the way they treat their suppliers leaves a lot to be desired).

Steve Jobs was a control freak, he knew how to preach and get people to follow religiously. He knew how to manipulate the press to ensure positive coverage. I don't think he ever pretended to be a saint either.

Steve was also considered to be very rude (check out some of his real emails to people) and abrupt. But isn't that what being a CEO is about? Be honest; it's the nasty ones that usually succeed most. If you were nice, you wouldn't push the boundaries and dare punish those who don't do what you want.

Right or wrong, Steve got the results. Apple products are about more than hardware. It's a lifestyle, and I bought both a MacBook Air and an iMac as they are really nice looking computers that serve me well. I also love OSX (even saying that as someone who used PCs before, and still runs Windows 7 on a PC now).

There was (is) always something weird about buying something from an Apple store. You almost forget you're spending money; but you feel like that payment is getting you membership into a special club. Steve Jobs did what no other company has ever been able to do.

Many companies try and stage big launches and get people in the media, friends and others to queue up for a stage managed midnight launch. Apple didn't need to do that; it had millions of people willing to buy the product from a well planned choreographed presentation alone.

I suspect Apple has a vision to take over the world by taking a percentage of everything you buy; apps, games, newspapers, movies, books, film - 30% of everything is why Apple could soon have another $50bn cash in the bank.

I love Apple. I also hate Apple. It's a very odd feeling as they can wow me with a new laptop, then annoy me with some relaunch of a service that has been around for years and now claimed to be something they invented.

Nevertheless, Steve Jobs was one of a kind and now is not the time to slag him off. Nobody is perfect and at least he knew what he wanted to do from the outset, and managed to make it happen. Nobody was ever forced to give him money or buy into the Apple mindset, after all.

Excellent stuff there. All things I agree with.
Jobs was without a doubt the driving force behind Apple's recent success. And you don't get anywhere at the level by being nice. Nice probably doesn't get results.
I am an enthusiastic user of Apple products. Please don't call me a fanboy as I am not 14. But I am someone who appreciates quality and ease of use. And thats what Apple stuff is.

RIP Mr Jobs. I am sure you will be greatly missed

I am not jumping for joy but neither am I particularly sad. I wouldn't wish death on anyone and he did a fine job but undoubtedly made easier by the media sucking up to him.

I can only hope that Apple will go back to their roots and to stop focussing on being patent trolls and vendor lock-in.

Sadly that is their roots though. They spend decades in litigation with Microsoft over Windows (that only failed because MS was big enough to afford lawyers just as smart as apples), and managed to prevent DR's GEM GUI product from reaching it's potential though litigation.

And until the advent of the USB port in the iMac, Macs where hardly open platforms - in those days if you had a mac all your peripherals had to be apple too!.

So far Bill Gates has not released a statement regarding the death of Steve Jobs.
He's still waiting for Windows 7 to start so he can type one

Brilliant! :)

I have owned many iPod's and and currently have a Macbook, which need's to be replaced soon and will defiantly be buying another Mac.

Steve Job's completely changed Apple after he came back and most of their products have been great successes. He will be greatly missed.

RIP Steve Jobs.
