Britain once ruled 1/4 of the planet. Today, both the Welsh and Scottish are looking for independence and the ever present EU has hatched its final plan.

BRITAIN is set to be wiped off the map in a shocking new overhaul of the European Union, the Tories warn.

Under secret plans by Brussels bureaucrats, the UK would be carved up into three administrative regions governed from the Continent.

In effect, Britain would disappear altogether as a recognised nation.

The plan would divide England between three EU regions to be overseen by new “transnational” regional assemblies.

The “Manche Region”, named after the French for the English Channel, would combine southern England with northern France.

The “Atlantic Region” seeks to link the west of England, Wales and western Scotland with Ireland and parts of Portugal, Spain and France.

And the “North Sea Region” is planned to include the east of England and eastern Scotland with parts of Denmark, the Netherlands and Flemish Belgium. Each region would be overseen by one of three regional assemblies, to be based in France, Portugal and Denmark.

So why am I interested in it?

Wrong, our official title on the world stage is "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". Although the term Great Britian also refers to the Geographical area which constitutes the main Island within the UK, Great Britian = England, Scotland & Wales.

Correct. And I suppose at this stage it should be pointed out the 'Great Britain' does not mean the country is 'Great', as many of the thickos believe, it's a reference to the amalglamation between England, Scotland and Wales. Indeed, from the French term 'Grande Bretagne' which was used to distinguish it from Brittany. The name Britannia came from Ancient Greece.

Last time I looked it was governed mainly from Westminster, although the Scottish and Welsh have increasingly had more power, indeed if the EU don't succeed in breaking it up, I suspect the Scots will.

Perhaps if one stopped to ask oneself exactly HOW the EU could do this, as they neither have the legislative power nor the wherewithal to impose such an idea - even if they were so inclined (which they aren't)

It's already been happening for years though has the Isolation of Britain. Take today - St Georges day. How many places do you know that are celebrating it in huge success as they did St Patricks day? Not sure about where you are, but the only places I can think of locally to me is Morley and my local pub.

The EU have a lot more power than people think, they also have expansionist policies and make no secret of it.

It has been ruled several times by the European Court of Justice that EC law is superior to national laws, anyone with any knowledge of law knows this. That's a fact.

Did anyone ask for regional assemblies? Well we've got them.

On a more general note: Language is fast evolving into US English, fewer, larger corporations, many of which are foreign owned, are running more things.

Some of this is inevitable. Containerisation, the internet and low cost airlines are all meaning individual cultures are going to play a lesser role.

Now it may be a good thing, it might be a bad thing. Nevertheless I am rather disappointed at the replies which are just a general note of denial and even back door insults.

And no I read all the newspapers, even the regional ones and the Financial times.

Well, put it this way. I didn't even remember that today was St George's Day until I rode past a local pub (one of four between the town and my house), and then coming on here and reading the above comment!

I would have thought that these were are a far greater threat to the 'identity' as it were, of the country, than any EU scaremongering. For example, I resent being asked to "fill out" a form.
