Rioting Football Fans

Newcastle and Sunderland were fighting this evening at Necastle Central station.
They spilled onto tracks at east end of station causing delays.
1S21 was delayed 24 minutes.

Football fans seem to cause loads of problems on the trains. I was at Birmingham N St yesterday and there were a gang of about 10 chanting, threatening other passengers. I think such people should be refused travel.

can remember on a Sheffield CT train once, loads of em were swearing, and some drunk guy strolled in and shoutes "oi, there arrrre smm small kids on this train!!" which is odd for one of them!

A train and the station at Manningtree were both damaged not so long ago after Norwich lost to Bristol.

I think such people should be refused travel.

I somehow doubt all drunken folk will accept a refusal to travel from a station assistant and leave the station. I think it's more likely that the station assistant would end up with a bottle in the face or something.

Most use major stations like the one I was at, New Street, which have many police officers loitering around and looking suspicious.

Difference between football fans and general thugs out for a fight. Of course giving football fans their own trains (they do tend to be a fair few of them) is far too difficult these days. Sure the police, train crews, normal passengers and football fans would find regular footexs a very useful resource - just think the stock would be spare during the summer to work holiday additionals...

Me thinks Northumbria Police then were a bit too late for this trouble then considering the amount of police officers outside the station at 10.10 this morning?

They were going all out for it on Gallowgate and St James Boulevard. I did the right thing and went photographing out in the Ouseburn area

The pubs in the area were Heaving, stayed in the Crow's nest for the match, then visited Shamrox and the Newcaslte Arms where it was ram jam packed. Thank god I only normally go there on a friday evening when a match is not on so I dont get trampled on :razz:

They d tend to be, although recently a rugby player (but of the distinctly chavvy type) was prosecuting for urinating in a FGW FC coach.

I came across a drunk on my way to Westbury recently. He was being a total. A word comes after total, but I'll leave that to your imagination. HINT: It's not a good word.

My Dad (a PRIV) and his colleague (another PRIV) were on a train somewhere and a couple were having a row. The guard asked my dad and co if the woman could be seated with them whilst he went and sorted out the guy, but asked the dad + friend for help if needed. Lol - everyone's brothers in the PRIVhood!

Another episode was when on a train a drunk was being a disturbance. So the guard took the drunk to the Senior Guard Office. All I heard was banging. I'm not sure what was going on, but when the drunk came out, he just sat down and was quiet.

Andy,it wasnt just the unwashed that was battling,the gremlins were attacking anybody that came out of the centurion bar,I should know,I was there so the police basically locked down the bar,only exit was via the deli !!
Then went to get a metro home,a Hylton train standing in the platform for ages then the police decide to bring s/land fans down to the train which is full of p1ssed up toon fans,enevitable kick off ensues !!,police totally unprepared and they end up shoving,punching innocent bystanders.!! Eventually my train(along with several others)arrives to take us away !!

I preferred the 1990's solution - if you wear a Sunderland shirt in Newcastle on match day it was 'inciting a riot' and you were nicked (ditto for Sunderland on derby day). All fans going to the ground on escorted official coaches from the other stadium.

The problem is that IIRC the station (inc the metro station) is policed by BTP, and the rest of the Metro and the streets by Northumbria, who used to have very good match commanders and match tactical plans - anyone remember the "trap them in the Bigg market until they get bored" year. May have been bad on TV, but it restricted the damage to one area (although they did trash BT phoneboxes and knock 2 lamp-posts over (sadly no electrocutions due to the council turning the power off beforehand.

Hmm Haymarket shuts early on Sundays anyway with the redevelopment, and given the large amount of weapons available on the building site at the station it could be that fans were being directed to other stations instead?

I must say that the removal of the white panels from Haymarket makes the station look as dingy and horrible as the LU / SPT Subway stations - underground stations need the reflective white surfaces like Metro had.

BTP cover from pelaw to s/land & south hylton,the metro police unit cover the rest(incl central station)BTP only responsible afor what happens above ground at central !!
