Ok,
Right place, wrong time;
So I left home yesterday at 10:10 yesterday and caught the 10:22 Forest Hill - New Cross Gate which was bang on time. However, we were held at Honor Oak Park for 20 minutes due to a passenger being taken ill on the preceeding train. Because of this, we arrived at New Cross Gate just as the ELL train was due to leave (they're every 15 minutes), so I could not catch it to Canada Water then catch the Jubilee to Stratford. So, I was forced to remain on the 455 to London Bridge and catch the Jubilee from there - another 10 minute addition to the journey time. I should have left 20 minutes earlier.
I arrived at Stratford at 11:18 to find everything grind to a halt - there had been a fatality at Romford :roll:. I then found out that 1Q18 (37605 + 37606) was sitting at Manor Park heading out of London - so they came through on time, but all the slack I left in my plan was used up by the delay on the 455 and having to take a detour via London Bridge.
Right place, right time:
I took the 11:37 Silverlink service to Hackney Wick, as the alignment of the sun was perfect for 1Q14 which was supposed to head back into Stratford at 11:55. It didn't. It was very quiet freight-wise for a while due to the fatality at Romford. 90043 passed eastbound, followed by 47810 and some FGW coaches. Finally, 86501 passed through westbound happily enough at 13:15. 37259 + 37218 passed westbound with 1Q14 at 13:42, followed by green 90046 working 4M87 at 13:44 and 37510 pulled up to the peg at 13:48 working 0Z07 Stowmarket - Ashford. It turned out that 86501 (not yet known) had failed right over the points at Dalston Junction. Meaning that Silverlink services could not get to Stratford, and obviously following services couldn't get to Richmond. After talking my Simsig NLL route knowledge to the driver, exactly what I joked about happened - 37510 went back the way it came, crossed over onto up line and came (blasted!) back through Hackney Wick heading to Dalston to rescue the failure (which we thought was the unit in front of 90046. At which point, adrenaline deployed fire under my heels, and I legged it to the bus stop, where a 276 arrived straight away to take me to Stratford.

I took a Central Line train to Holborn, a Piccadilly train to King's Cross then a Victoria line train to Highbury and Islington arriving at 15:40. With the fire under my heels again, I found myself at surface level 50 seconds after stepping off the Viccy train. The station staff had blocked access to the platforms
. I told them the driver told me he was now dragging the failed freight away from Dalston, but the distinctive noise of a thrashing 37 appeared, and the lot went through before they let me down - they were busy radioing control with my gen.
So the first thought which popped into my head was to get to Euston - 2 stops from Highbury. I arrived there at 1610, which was far too late to get to Kilburn High Road or Willesden Low Level to see it anyway. I did eventually get to Willesden via North Wembley, to be told that there was a signal failure on the NLL causing even more delays.
The good thing is I can look forward to plenty of staged DRS thrash in future - 37038 had best shift itself from Sellafield and find itself at Sizewell tomorrow
